Is your in-box a dumping ground for everything that comes IN to the house?
The primary duty of an in-box is to provide a place for things that may be incomplete, but are not to be forgotten. It is not a place for junk mail, to-do lists, filing, or urgent items.
So, what belongs in an in-box? Anything that requires action or a decision by you such as; subcription renewals, applications, bills, invitations, or forms to fill out BEFORE you decide to finally toss or file it. To keep your in-box under control, and to keep yourself from forgetting "to-do" what needs to be done; empty your in-box once a week. The first time may be painful, but if you keep it up on a weekly basis, it should be a 5-10 minute chore once a week. Also, avoid putting items back into the in box that you are unable to make decision about week after week. Finally, avoid using your in-box for quick desk clean ups! Yes, you!
